Latest industry research on salaries and HR issues:

2019 ALPMA/McLeod Duminy New Zealand Legal Industry Salary & HR Issues Survey

Is your remuneration strategy ready for next financial year?

As we approach the new financial year, now is the time to ensure your remuneration strategy is not only competitive but working for you.

100 law firms, representing 2,741 staff working in 40+ positions, have participated in this year's survey, making it the most comprehensive independent study of remuneration (including actual salaries paid) within New Zealand law firms.

The research indicates again this year (unsurprisingly) that the top two (2) HR Issues are:

  1. Talent acquisition; and
  2. Employee retention

Emerging Challenge: Managing Mental Health

Up from 76% last year, and 69% in 2017, nearly 9 in 10 firms (87%) now indicate that managing the mental health of their employees will be one of the most important issues for HR to focus on.

“Employers can play an active and important part in maintaining the health and wellbeing of their employees and it is pleasing to see the significant increase in prioritizing this responsibility within legal firms.

Sheryll Carey, ALPMA NZ Chair and General Manager at Lowndes Jordan

Create a competitive, proactive remuneration & talent sourcing strategy

  • Have you benchmarked your Firms salaries, bonuses, benefits and incentives recently?
  • Are you doing all you can to win the war on talent and retain your quality staff?
  • Do you know how you compare with your competitors and are you confident with your Firms offering?

Surprisingly, the report indicated only 15% of the firms surveyed reported having a proactive talent sourcing strategy. Recent and relevant information is the first step on a pathway to join these firms taking a proactive approach.
